The bustling Qatari capital Doha on October 8th to 9th will be the stage for the Inside Investor Forum Asia 2012, a high-level business event organized by the Qatari Businessmen Association and the international media group and consultancy Inside Investor that will bring together business people, investors and top-level company executives from Southeast Asia and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to identify bilateral investment opportunities in both regions.

The event is being held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar. Heads of state from ASEAN are expected to join the forum including the private sector from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei and Vietnam. Senior-level executives from more than 100 companies will attend the forum, which is targeting the presence of at least 500 delegates, and 46 speakers are scheduled to discuss the latest investment trends, opportunities, partnerships and portfolio diversification strategies.

With Qatar continuing to diversify and achieve resounding economic development, the country is increasingly looking globally to further strengthen its economic ties. Southeast Asia has been at the center of this policy of looking for investment potential as the epicenter of economic growth amid global uncertainty shifts eastwards. The focus of the event will be on Banking and Finance, Food Security and Halal Industry, Energy and Resources, Green Investments and Technology, Real Estate, Transport and Infrastructure, Education and Healthcare.

The Gulf States have been intensifying their economic relations to ASEAN states in the past years. The total trade between ASEAN and the GCC was valued at $83.25 billion as per latest available figures in 2010, up 23.64 per cent from $67.33 billion in 2009. ASEAN’s exports reached $20.13 billion, while imports reached $63.12 billion. The largest recent commitment of a GCC member state in ASEAN was the agreement between Qatar and Vietnam to undertake a $4 billion real estate development project and a multi-billion investment in a joint venture to build a petrochemical complex in the country. There are also notable investments in Indonesia and Malaysia from the Gulf region.

The event will also see the launch of in-depth business reports on both regions produced by Inside Investor, containing specialised information for investors, namely the detailed two-part Inside ASEAN 2012 as well as Inside QATAR 2012. The reports provide overviews on key industries and analyses on major economic and infrastructural developments in both regions along with interviews of prominent personalities from the public and private sector. Experienced researchers and journalists have compiled it over months to help investors identify opportunities in various fields such as Manufacturing and Industry, Technology and Innovation, Energy and Resources, Tourism and Hospitality, and also features case studies and doing business guides for each country.
